Cyrenians’ ambitious project to recreate the Floral Clock at Dollar Park is building up speed to become a reality…with your support.
Cyrenians, in partnership with Falkirk Rotary are building on people’s memories and are fundraising to build a new clock for Dollar Park.
In 2015 following the restoration of the walled garden by Falkirk Criminal Justice, Cyrenians were funded by Falkirk Council to manage and maintain the walled garden. In addition to this Cyrenians are developing the walled garden as a social enterprise to pay for the plants. Our focus for the Garden is about community and developing an outdoor area for Falkirk.
The floral clock at the entrance of Dollar Park was a key feature of the Park for many years. Through our work in the Walled Garden within Dollar Park we have been fortunate to have heard people’s memories of the clock. Cyrenians in partnership with Falkirk Rotary would like to build on those memories and build a new clock. This would create new memories for the future and, further re-connect the community to the park.
Research and analysis of the state of the current mechanism has shown investment is required for, mechanism, hands and electricity source along with the plants. Our current analysis shows that around £20,000 is required to recreate this piece of Falkirk’s history.
Historically the design of the clock was either directed by the Provost or via competition between local charities. Cyrenians are proposing to reinstate the clock with a design theme focussed on local charities.
This is an extremely ambitious fundraiser for local charity Cyrenians and Falkirk Rotary to take on board but we believe achievable if the community and businesses pull together.
Our key target is to have raised the money by February 2018, which we realise is an ambitious target but will allow the clock to be installed and in flower in time for the reopening of Arnotdale House in autumn 2018.
We are fortunate to have free advice from consultants for the floral design of the clock, and labouring hours from volunteers and people on Community Payback Orders. In particular the support from Friends of Dollar Park and the voluntary hours given to support us in the research to date and future design of the clock have been invaluable.
WE NEED YOU!
The project is an excellent opportunity for local businesses and the community to make a charitable donation, sponsorship or payment in kind via skills, providing plants, or offering to grow plants for us.
Are there any clock specialists out there who would be interested in being involved through sponsoring or providing technical knowledge or support?
We are also creating two working groups to manage the project
This group’s remit will be the preparing of the ground, designing and planting of the clock
Fundraising and Marketing of the Clock:
This group’s remit will be to support meeting the fundraiser target. It will also publicise the floral clock, Dollar Park and the Walled Garden by meeting with local groups to raise awareness of the project and raise funds
If you are interested in any of the above please contact
