Field-to-Fork Wild Gnocchi Masterclass
Join us for our first Field-to-Fork cooking class: harvesting fresh ingredients grown at our Cyrenians Green Space Centre to create a fresh and vibrant Italian Meal. We’re joined by qualified chef and Slow Food Edinburgh Chair, Lucia Ortisi to share her expertise in the kitchen, highlighting traditional Italian techniques, the importance of seasonality, and the cultural heritage behind each dish. This event is taking place on Thursday 3rd of September from 10.30-2pm at our Cyrenians Green Space Centre.
The day will begin with a tour of our Green Space Centre and growing spaces from our Market Garden Coordinator Andie Richard, giving you a hands-on opportunity to pick your ingredients for the class. Guided by the principles of simple, rustic Italian cooking, the class will then focus on transforming these natural ingredients into flavourful dishes.
You will learn to prepare classic recipes, like handmade vegetable gnocchi to serve with simple wild herb sauces, alongside vibrant antipasti using your freshly harvested produce. Emphasis is placed on respecting the ingredients – using minimal processing to highlight their natural flavours, aromas, and textures.
This class provides a hands-on, immersive experiences that connects people to nature, encourages sustainable cooking practices, and showcases how humble ingredients can be elevated into delicious, nourishing meals.
About Our Events
Funds raised by this event will be shared between our Green Skill Centre and Flavour and Haver Cook School, contributing to the work Cyrenians do day in day out to tackle the causes and consequences of homelessness across Scotland.
Our Green Skills Centre is an outdoor learning environment for young people currently unsupported by the mainstream education system and traditional career pathways. Through building connections to the natural environment and encouraging connections to the wider community we offer young people the space to grow, and find their own path forwards.
Our purpose-built community kitchen is home to a number of courses to help break down the barriers around creating good quality, nutritious meals. Thank you for choosing to participate in an event that makes a difference so that everyone can experience the benefits of cooking and eating together, regardless of finance, confidence or ability.
