Celebrating One Year of our Green Skills Centre

On 24th September, Cyrenians welcomed funders, partners, supporters and volunteers to the Green Skills Centre Open Day, marking one year since the launch of our pioneering green skills programme. The event celebrated a year of growth, learning, and collaboration — recognising the collective effort that has helped the Centre flourish.
Since launching in 2023, the Green Skills Centre based at Cyrenians Farm, has provided hands-on, outdoor learning opportunities for young people, building confidence, practical experience, and a deeper connection to nature. Guests at the open day enjoyed a tour of the site, learning more about the wide range of produce grown and the environmental projects developed over the past year.
Reflecting on the day, Sophia, Green Skills Manager, said:
“Thank you to everyone who made the journey to attend our celebration event. It was a lovely occasion, and we really enjoyed showcasing all the brilliant work of the team at the Green Skills Centre to provide outdoor learning opportunities for the young people we support, and the wide range of produce we grow.
“The highlight of the day was Keira’s (a former participant) confidence to share her experience at the GSC to a room full of people! The weather was kind to us and a huge thank you to our amazing volunteers and team who helped make the event such a success. Not to forget, the squad of bakers who kindly provided the abundance of tasty treats which was the cherry on top!”
Projects like the Green Skills Centre play a vital role in supporting young people who find traditional education settings challenging. By offering a nurturing environment where learning is practical, hands-on, and connected to nature, we help young people to rediscover their confidence and sense of purpose. Continued investment in initiatives like this is essential to ensure more young people can access these life-changing opportunities — building brighter futures for individuals and stronger, more sustainable communities.
