Key to Work
Key to Work is an early intervention service for young people aged 14 – 17 living in Edinburgh who are disengaging from mainstream school provision.
We work with schools and activity agreement hubs to offer an 8-week programme of small group, work experience taster sessions at one of our partner services; Cyrenians Farm, Creative Natives, Cyrenians Cook School, and Edinburgh Zoo. We facilitate half-day sessions over a 6-week period, as well as an orientation in week 1 and an employability skills session in week 8
Through working with our project, we aim to help young people feel:
- More prepared in their transition from school
- More confident to try new things
- More confident in building relationships
“Their attendance at the Cyrenians farm has had a profound impact both on their attendance at school but also on their plans and confidence for the future…They are now so much more confident working both as a group and with different adults as well as being able to travel independently - all of them are now talking excitedly of what college courses that they would like to do next year and beyond”.
