Corporate Volunteering
At Cyrenians we tackle the causes and consequences of homelessness in your local community. From tackling food insecurity, to securing accommodation with wrap-around support, to working with families through our mediation services, to exploring employment opportunities and supporting people to meet their full potential, our projects change lives for the better. With your help we can take that a step further.
Corporate volunteering with Cyrenians is a great way to engage with our work and enjoy a unique team-building experience. Benefits include:
- A chance to make a real difference in your local community
- An outstanding sense of achievement for all who take part
- An excellent public relations opportunity
- Low cost
We currently have corporate volunteering opportunities at our Walled Garden, our Green Skills Centre (the Farm) and FareShare Depot, which we can tailor to your needs.
You'll be provided health and safety training on site, supervision throughout, and learn more about the work we do.
Why Cyrenians?
Volunteering is at the heart of what we do, and we’ve got a great track record of delivering successful corporate volunteering opportunities for local and national businesses. In the last year we've hosted more than 500 corporate volunteers across our projects.
But don’t take our word for it! We’ve received some amazing feedback too:
“We had such a fantastic afternoon, it was all really well organised – Sam was fab as our coordinator – and such a satisfying and great team building activity, everyone worked really hard and we got loads of orders packed up and ready to go.”
- Marisa, Artemis Fund Managers
“I found it incredibly inspiring. The people working there were wonderful, helpful and thankful for all the help. I would certainly volunteer there again!"
- Volunteer from Addepar
What does it involve?
Linburn Walled Garden
At our Linburn Walled Garden in Wilkieston, West Lothian, we're working to create a blossoming therapeutic garden for veterans – an oasis of calm in an otherwise stressful and chaotic world.
Starting at 10am and working into the afternoon, volunteers will undertake a variety of tasks including weeding, harvesting, planting, and barrowing. Watch as the garden, and its people, bloom into a place of reflection and remembrance thanks to the work you do.
Remember to bring some wellies, appropriate outdoor clothing, and your green fingers!
Up to 10 volunteers can help at the garden. Car-sharing would be appreciated due to limited parking space.
FareShare Depot
Our FareShare Depot in Seafield is a thriving surplus food hub connecting the local community to good quality food that otherwise would go to landfill.
From packaging printing errors, to over-ordering issues, we work with major retailers and suppliers such as the Co-op, Tesco and Asda to redirect high quality food to those who need it most. Right now, we’re distributing the equivalent of 20,000 meals a week to our local community.
Your team will work with our depot staff to help pick, pack and deliver orders, helping us ensure that nobody goes hungry and that good food doesn't go to waste.
We can offer a half-day experience starting at 10am, for 4-6 people and for larger groups on request.
The Green Skills Centre
Over 8 acres of land, our Green Skills Centre is an outdoor learning environment for young people currently unsupported by the mainstream education system and traditional career pathways. By volunteering your time here, you will help us in providing young people with the space to thrive and find their own path forwards.
We offer full day sessions, starting at 10am, involving anything from harvesting and planting fruit and vegetables, potting up and planting native trees, grass cutting and weeding, barrowing and digging woodchip, to making support ropes from twine, raised beds or planters, and grass cutting and strimming.
We take your safety seriously, so we advise you wear sturdy outdoor boots with a good grip, walking boots or wellies, and clothes that will be comfortable to do manual activities in - and that you don’t mind getting dirty!
We would recommend the Green Skills Centre for larger groups of volunteers, as we have a maximum capacity of 18 during the summer months, and 12 during the winter months.
How much does it cost?
We kindly ask for a donation of £50pp for corporate volunteering sessions, which facilitates a safe and enjoyable experience for your team and supports our vital work tackling homelessness.
Your budget is not intended to be a barrier to participation, so please get in touch as we are happy to work out a bespoke opportunity to suit you. Some groups choose to get involved in other ways too – through Food Drives, in-office fundraisers, or participating as a Veg Bag Collection Point.
