Port of Leith Distillery Abseilers raise over £12,000 for Cyrenians
Last weekend a brave team of Cyrenians fundraisers took to the top of the iconic Port of Leith Distillery - not for the view, but to abseil from the edge of the building down to meet their cheering supporters below.
Standing at a towering 40 meters (130 feet) tall, the Edinburgh landmark is known for being the tallest distillery in the world, the UK’s first vertical distillery, and for its panoramic outlook over the city. Abseiling its entire height is no mean feat, but our fundraisers took on the challenge - raising over £12,000 as a team.
Vikki, Lauren, Alastair and others from the The Kingdom Group, Scott, Mel, Mercedes, Monika, Pat, Laura (who bravely stepped in at the last minute) and last but not least Cyrenians CEO Ewan Aitken threw themselves, their energy and courage into this iconic and daunting challenge, showing what an amazing impact fundraisers can have.
Before taking on his speedy descent, Fhior Restaurant chef Scott Smith said "we've teamed up with Cyrenians in the past, both for produce for our restaurant and bringing our team in to help with the garden, so this is a nice little circling round!"
Facing his life-long fear of heights and taking on one last challenge to mark his departure from his 12-year role as Cyrenians CEO, Ewan Aitken raised an incredible £6685.
Intrepid fundraisers and supporters like these support Cyrenians to keep tackling the causes and consequences of homelessness. We are grateful to everyone who took on the challenge
