Join us at the BIG Family event on 9th November
On Saturday 9 November, The BIG Family Event takes place in Edinburgh at Dynamic Earth hosted by our Scottish Centre for Conflict Resolution (SCCR). A day of fun and learning for families, The BIG Family Event is FREE and runs from 9.30am to 3pm, lunch and refreshments included!
Family can mean different things to different people; whether you’re a parent, carer, grandparent, uncle, cousin, young person, sibling – you are very welcome to join our BIG Family Event. The event is for anyone who wants to learn more about family relationships and wellbeing. Book your free tickets here.
The BIG Family Event is themed around ‘Being Well, Doing Well’ because we believe that if family members feel good in and about themselves, if they feel centred and stable, they’ll enjoy better relationships with their relatives.
At the same time, we know – because the SCCR team are family members themselves – that being part of a family can be difficult at times. Like anything worthwhile, it must be worked at – and The BIG Family Event has been created to help people connect with each other better. Like our recently launched Learning Zone, The BIG Family event will share what we’ve learned about boosting emotional health and wellbeing, so that family members can better connect with each other.
On the day, families will arrive at Dynamic Earth to a warm welcome and an opportunity to take part in a range of fun and interesting sessions and activities.
When you enter the BIG Family Event, you’ll see what we’re calling our ‘Marketplace’, a space where you’ll find stalls run by Scottish family services including representatives from Carers Trust Scotland, Kinship Care Advice Service for Scotland, Families Outside, Parent Club, and Parenting Across Scotland and more!
Our marketplace will welcome services covering a range of issues that affect families; if you’re looking for advice on a particular family matter, there should be a service in attendance that can help you with that or point you in the right direction.
On the day we're also hosting 4 free workshops offering families a chance to learn and have fun together, including:
- A family yoga session.
- Learn how to make meals that are as nutritious and easy to cook as they are cheap.
- A conversation cafe – chat about family issues with other families and experts.
- An exclusive SCCR workshop.
Alongside our workshops you can explore our Quiet Zone, Games/Play Zone, Chill Area and Creative Corner.
We are also delighted to be joined by Maree Todd MSP, Minister for Social Care, Mental Wellbeing and Sport who will be giving a Ministerial Address at lunchtime, sharing with us the Scottish Government’s thinking on families.
Most importantly, our Big Family Event offers families the chance to connect with other families, hear their stories, and share what works, or doesn't, for them. All families joining us are invited to explore Dynamic Earth and its amazing exhibits after the event too!
If you’re travelling to come to the event, Dynamic Earth has a car park. If you’re travelling by bus, Dynamic Earth can be reached by LRT’s 35 and a three-minute walk. Other routes that take you close to Dynamic Earth include 5, 7, 14, 29, 30, 31, 33, 37, 45 and 49 which stop on North Bridge and are a 10-minute walk away along Holyrood Road.
