“We were in a lot of debt…”
When we found out about Cyrenians we were in a lot of debt and because of this we were at risk of losing our home. Our local housing office suggested we contact them.
I had lost my job a couple of months earlier which was difficult because I had worked my whole life. Although Sarah works as a carer and I was receiving Job Seeker’s Allowance, it wasn’t enough to pay for our outgoings. A loan and trust deed were all defaulted on. We had fallen behind. The pressure to provide for our family and keep our house was getting to be too much. We thought there was nothing we could do and I was scared of the impact it would have on our sons.
When we met with our Cyrenians team we were really scared, but they opened up the lines of communications to our lenders and creditors – explaining the circumstances and that we were taking steps to deal with our debts.
Cyrenians were able to introduce us to a local financial advisor (who kindly helped us without a fee) and supported us to find a solution that allowed us to keep our family home. Our solution involved us becoming tenants in our home, whilst our sons took over the mortgage.
Our journey with Cyrenians didn’t end there. Their Enterprise to Employment service gave me weekly support and within a couple of weeks I was offered a full time job. What an organisation!
For 50 years Cyrenians has journeyed with thousands of people like Kush in tough realities, helping them transform their own lives for themselves, but there is still much to do.
Please donate to support our continued work in this, our 50th year.
