Linburn Walled Garden

Cyrenians’ Linburn Walled Garden is a welcoming outdoor wellbeing space supporting veterans, armed forces families, and the wider community in West Lothian. The garden provides a safe, inclusive environment that promotes mental wellbeing, social connection, and successful community integration for those with lived experience of military service.

Through therapeutic horticulture, wellbeing activities, skills development and peer support, Linburn helps veterans and their families build confidence, routine and connection. Participants are also offered tailored signposting to specialist veterans’ services and local support, ensuring holistic, person-centred pathways that reflect individual needs.

The historic walled garden includes a polytunnel, vegetable and kitchen gardens, sensory garden, raised beds, pond, wildflower maze, cut-flower area and open green space for outdoor games and group activities. These spaces support both structured programmes and informal opportunities to spend time outdoors, supporting physical and mental health.

Linburn Walled Garden is open every weekday, with dedicated sessions to ensure accessibility and inclusion:

  • Thursdays are a protected day for people with military connections, offering space to enjoy the outdoors, learn new skills and connect with peers
  • The last Thursday of each month hosts Hope Never Leaves – Women Only, providing a safe, supportive environment for women with military connections
  • Wonderful Wednesday Workshops (last Wednesday of the month) bring together veterans and members of the local community to learn practical skills and build social networks

We also host seasonal family fun days for armed forces families, alongside access to seasonal produce grown on site.

Cyrenians actively collaborates with veterans’ organisations, community groups and statutory partners, using Linburn as a shared outdoor venue that complements wider armed forces support services. We are keen to expand our reach, developing new partnerships that engage under-represented groups and amplify seldom-heard voices within the veterans’ community.
