How to Apply

What is our FareShare depot?

Our FareShare depot is part of the Good Food programme, a social enterprise that supports people to move towards a more settled lifestyle through access to food.

FareShare is a national network redistributing surplus food from supermarkets and bakeries to organisations working with vulnerable people. We have been the delivery partner for Central and Southeast Scotland for 25 years.

Our depot has a small team who works alongside trainees and volunteers, who participate in all aspects of the process and contribute to the successful running of the project.

Why we need you and what activities are involved

  • Working as part of a team to manually sort and store large deliveries of surplus food e.g. receive and record food that comes in
  • Helping to assemble the daily deliveries of food for Community Food Members (CFMs) such as local charities and community groups.
  • Making sure the food handled safely
  • Be at the forefront of stopping good food from going to waste
  • Daily cleaning and organisation of the depot to ensure we are compliant with Health and Safety standards

Skills we’re looking for

  • Able to perform physical tasks including lifting and loading
  • Positive, friendly and personable, interacting well with various people, including being non-judgmental
  • Understanding of confidentiality and boundaries (training provided)
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills to record quantities and types of food
  • Work well as part of a team and happy to complete tasks independently
  • Reliable, e.g. keeping to arrangements where possible
  • Adaptable: managing surplus can be unpredictable; tasks can vary
  • Positive, friendly, and enthusiastic about tackling food waste and poverty
  • Operate within Cyrenians’ core values

What you can gain from this opportunity

  • Through volunteering with us, you will directly ensure that good quality food is not wasted and gets into the hands of the people who need it.
  • Be part of a team of likeminded people
  • Working reference available after 3 months in the role

If you have any questions about the opportunity, please get in touch with Samantha (Sam) via email on: SamAdderley@Cyrenians.scot
