Key to Potential
Key to Potential is an outreach-based transitions service supporting young people who are approaching school leaving age, or who have recently left school and are not engaging with careers services or other post-school support. The service works with young people who may be at risk of disengagement from education, training or employment, helping them move towards positive and sustainable destinations.
Using a home-visiting outreach model, Key Workers build trusted relationships with young people and their families, providing tailored careers information, guidance and practical support. The service focuses on helping young people understand their options, identify their strengths and interests, and make informed decisions about their future.
Support is highly personalised and may include one-to-one careers coaching, exploring education and employment pathways, assistance with college and training applications, CV development, job applications and interview preparation. Young people can also be supported to develop confidence travelling independently and may be accompanied on visits to colleges, training providers and employers to help them better understand the opportunities available to them.
The service is particularly suitable for young people who have experienced disrupted education, limited engagement with support services, low confidence or uncertainty about their next steps. By offering flexible, relationship-based support, Key to Potential helps young people build confidence, increase aspirations and successfully progress into education, training, employment or other positive destinations.
Professionals working in education, youth work, employability, housing and family support services can refer young people who would benefit from intensive transition support and sustained engagement.
