Outdoor Learning Coordinator - Green Skills Centre
£28,759 to £31,595 pro rata, plus pension
Based in West Lothian, with travel across Edinburgh
Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to lead groups and work one-to-one with young people and adults, connecting them with nature whilst supporting their skills development and next steps?
If so, this may be the perfect opportunity for you!
About the service
Our Green Skills Centre offers group training and development work to young people and other groups at risk of experiencing homelessness. We offer outdoor education workshops, accredited Forest and Outdoor Learning (FOLA) training and client-led learning pathways. Our learning work includes sustainable horticulture, market gardening, woodland skills, peer-mentoring and outdoor-education.
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to coordinate and shape our outdoor learning offer at the Green Skills Centre. You will work closely with the Green Skills Centre team to design and deliver outdoor education courses to young people who are currently disengaged from school, many of whom are likely to leave school with no or low qualifications. You will ensure young people are supported throughout the course and will build relationships with each group.
We are looking to broaden our outdoor learning offer to a wider range of people who are experiencing, or at risk of experiencing homelessness. Such groups often face multiple barriers to accessing the wellbeing benefits of green spaces and experience a nature deficit. You would be involved in the planning, programme design and delivery to these groups.
About you
You will have experience or the ability to design, develop and leading outdoor education sessions to groups of young people and adults.
Your ability to build excellent working relationships will enable you to motivate people to engage with our outdoors education courses. You will be able to encourage and reach people who might not have experience of being in the outdoors, meeting them where they are at, supporting them to develop a nature connection and access nature safely.
You will be qualified or interested in attaining a qualification to deliver the Forest and Outdoor Learning Award (FOLA).
You will have excellent interpersonal communication skills, the ability to inspire others and an interest in trauma-informed practice.
You will be inclusive in your practice, adapting the sessions to meet the needs of the group. You will understand the challenges people face when leaving school, or the anxieties associated with the experience of homelessness or being at risk of homelessness, such as mental ill-health and additional support needs.
This is a varied role that will require you to be well organised, able to work on your own initiative; and be positive, creative and flexible in providing support.
How we’ll support you
You’ll be working independently as part of a team with a supportive manager. We will encourage you use your creativity to innovate new activities and support you to introduce them. You will have access to wider Cyrenians support, including our learning and development programme, and staff wellbeing services.
About us
