Build skills. Gain experience. Find work in the warehousing and logistics sector.
Our Employability Project offers people with little or no previous warehousing experience the chance to build the skills, qualifications, and confidence needed to move into work in this growing sector.
Through a mix of hands-on work experience, accredited training and personalised mentoring, we’ll support you to take the next step toward meaningful, sustained employment.
Who is this programme for?
This course is for anyone who is unemployed, under-employed or looking for a new start in warehousing and logistics.
You don’t need any previous experience. If you’re ready to learn, we’ll support you every step of the way.
What you’ll get
A person-centred approach - your journey is unique. You’ll get an Individual Development Plan (IDP) tailored to your goals, plus 1-to-1 mentoring and coaching throughout.
Practical work experience
You’ll join our team at FareShare Central and South East Scotland (CSES), working alongside staff and volunteers in our warehouse and on delivery runs. Tasks include:
- Sorting incoming food donations
- Completing goods-in records
- Picking and preparing orders
- Cleaning and depot upkeep
- Loading delivery vans
- (Optional) Acting as a Van Assistant on runs to partner charities
You’ll attend at least 2 days per week, with the structured training element lasting 6 weeks. If you don’t secure work straight away, you can continue volunteering with FareShare CSES and receive ongoing employment support.
Accredited vocational training
You’ll gain industry-recognised qualifications including:
- Manual Handling (accredited)
- Food Safety (accredited)
- Customer Service training
These boost your CV and can improve your employability in the warehousing and logistics sector.

Personal wellbeing support
We know that getting ready for work is about more than skills. We’ll work with you to strengthen your wellbeing through:
- Mental health support – reducing isolation, building confidence, growing self-esteem
- Physical health – increasing activity levels, overcoming health challenges
- Life skills – being healthy on a budget, preparing for working life
Participants also have opportunities to join cooking sessions at our Cook School, visit our Green Skills Centre, and help out at Community Pantries.
