Viv Monaghan

I am a nurse with 30 year’s experience of working in the NHS and overseas in a variety of roles and am currently working in Homelessness and Inclusion Health in Edinburgh.

I have always been drawn to those on the margins of society and have had the privilege of being involved in providing and developing health services to those experiencing homelessness, seeking refuge, or displaced. I have increasingly found myself in leadership and management roles and I particularly enjoy being involved in strategic platforms with the opportunity to: improve services, motivate and support teams, advocate and speak up when I see an injustice.  I am person focused and am also passionate about trying to ensure that we remain relevant and respond to those who are the most vulnerable.

By joining Cyrenians as a trustee I see this as an opportunity to bring my voice and the experience I have gathered to the table, to ensure that as an organisation we continue to challenge ourselves, provide quality staff for the many projects, advocate for those on our doorstep, and support the organisation in maintaining our core values.

I have a pragmatic approach to my work and am not afraid to challenge or question decisions to ensure that the outcome remains person focused, relevant, and ‘does no harm’.

I love people, laughter, spending time in the nature and the hills and exploring the Scottish Islands on my bike, and have rediscovered a love of creative writing in the last few years!
