Green Skills Apprentice, Farm Enterprise

Hours: 15 hours per week (Wed & Thurs)

Salary: £21,811 pro-rata, plus pension

Status: Part time (fixed term for 6 months)

About the Farm

Cyrenians Farm is an 8-acre small holding, organic market garden and rural skills centre in the heart of West Lothian. We have a 50-year history of working with the land.

About the role

This role provides an opportunity for progression within green sector for young people between the ages of 16–24.

You will be working alongside a friendly staff team helping with routine operations, developing new infrastructure projects and supporting the delivery of an exciting program of outdoor learning in a collaborative working environment.

You will be working closely with our outdoor education officer and others, developing new skills and confidence along the way. There will also be opportunities to work with our market garden team.

On completion of a 6-month work and learning placement you will leave with enhanced employment opportunities and valuable experience in a variety of outdoor skills and practices, with a dynamic rural social enterprise.

About you

You will have an interest in working outdoors with good communication skills, committed to learning and personal development and demonstrate a willingness to learn new things. Able to communicate needs and ask for support/guidance – we welcome and encourage an approach of curiosity and collaborative learning.

You will have a positive attitude, approaching problems in a solution focused way, be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions as part of a small friendly team of growers, outdoor educators and volunteers and be willing to take on responsibility and make decisions with support/guidance.

You must be able to travel to and from the farm on working days.

How we’ll support you

You will be working alongside our outdoor education officer and others and will receive mentoring and guidance throughout the 6-month learning and work experience period.

There will be opportunities for you to provide feedback through 1-2-1 objective setting and review sessions and you will have access to wider Cyrenians support, including our learning and development programme, and staff wellbeing services.
