As part of Cyrenians partnership with Edinburgh Rugby and the #BeLikeStAndrew campaign, club centurions and Scotland internationalists Tom Brown and WP Nel dropped off a donation of winter jackets at Cyrenians’ Leith-based Fareshare Depot.
In the build-up to next month’s 1872 Cup, Edinburgh Rugby have allowed supporters purchasing tickets to the festive derby to donate either £2 or £5 to Cyrenians’ Christmas appeal during the online purchase process. The campaign has already reached over £1000. The winter jackets will be used by both volunteers at Cyrenians Good Food Depot and those facing a tough reality, particularly at this time of the year.
Edinburgh Rugby’s Tom Brown – who has made 113 appearances for the club, said: “Cyrenians do so much good in and around the city of Edinburgh and I’m delighted that the club are able to support such a worthy cause”.
“From today’s visit to their Fareshare Depot, you instantly get the feeling that Cyrenians are a charity who care about their local community. It’s fantastic to see the club’s donation of winter jackets go to such a brilliant team of staff and volunteers.”
Our CEO, Ewan Aitken, said: “We are delighted to be the charity Edinburgh Rugby have chosen to support in such an inventive and effective way on St Andrew’s Day and in the run up to Christmas. It is heartening to know that our friends at Edinburgh Rugby understand that we support access to these things, not just on St Andrews Day, but 365 days of the year”
