Lorna has been a peer mentor with Cyrenians Criminal Justice Services in Falkirk for the past two years. She uses her personal experience of going through the criminal justice system to offer support to others who are at an earlier stage in their involvement with criminal justice. Peer Mentors undergo an intensive 10 week training programme before being matched with people who are new in criminal justice services. They then offer emotional support and positive role modelling, guiding their mentee through opportunities to assist their rehabilitation and progress.
After completing her peer mentor training with us, Lorna went to college to study hairdressing. At the award ceremony recently, Lorna was surprised to win both the Staff Recognition Award, where the staff nominate the student they think has gone the extra mile, and the Inspirational Peer of the Year award!
It’s fantastic to see that Lorna is putting her peer mentor training to good use not only in her role at Cyrenians but also by supporting her colleagues! Well done, Lorna, we are so proud of you!
